Departmental Report: Students-Teachers Collaborative Projects in Biochemistry
Introduction:
In the pursuit of fostering experiential learning and research acumen among Biochemistry Honours students, two collaborative projects were undertaken, each led by a team of three students under the guidance of a dedicated professor. The projects aimed to explore diverse facets of biochemistry through hands-on research and inquiry.
Project 1: Isolation of Azo Dye Degrading Bacteria from Ganges Water:
(Under the supervision of Prof. Anindya Bhattacharyya).
The first project focused on isolating bacteria capable of degrading azo dyes from Ganges water. This initiative not only addressed environmental concerns related to dye pollution but also provided students with a practical understanding of microbial ecology. The students engaged in water sample collection, isolation techniques, and biochemical assays to identify potential bacteria with dye-degrading capabilities.
Project 2: Analysis of the phytochemicals present in Mangifera indica cultivars along with in silico study against different types of cancers:
