Netaji Subhas Open University, Gurudas College Study Centre 

Introduction:

Gurudas College offers distance education through open learning process offered by Netaji Subhas Open University. The University facilitates a flexible learning schedule along with advanced support services and offers accreditation by way of examinations.

Programmes Offered:

Both Bachelor Degree Programmes and Postgraduate programs are run at Gurudas College Study Centre. Bachelor Degree programs are: ECH(Chemistry), EZO(Zoology), EMT(Mathematics) and EHI(History). Minimum duration of the course is 3 years from the date of registration. The registration is valid for a period of maximum 6 years.

PG Degree programme for as many as 11 subjects are offered at this Study Centre. The subjects are – Bengali, English, English Language Teaching, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Education, Social Work, Commerce, Mathematics and Library Science. Classes are held centrally at any of the study centres in and around Kolkata.Presently, classes for English and BLIS are being held at this Study Centre for the students of a large number of study centres running in South Bengal.

Academic Session:

Academic session is from July to June every year. Courses are offered semester wise. A student enrolling for 3 years’ BDP has to clear all the examinations within a period of 6 years from the year of enrollment. Total course fee for BA and B.Com. comes around 6 thousand and for B.Sc. 13 thousand.

Admission Procedure:

Every year the University conducts an online admission process for July session. The University provides its students Self Instructional Materials(SIM) written in Bengali for all students except EEG, to be studied and learnt by them at their convenience. For few courses SIMs are available even in the NSOU website. Several methods are used to provide maximum possible exposure of students to the course content and to each instructional program. Printed Self Learning Materials and contact programs involving face-to-face interaction with academic counsellors are made available.

Language of Instruction and Answering Medium:

Though the courses are offered in Bengali medium, a student is allowed to answer in English too in examinations. For the theoretical papers the students are subjected to continuous evaluation in the form of assignments.

So the main focus of academic and administrative structure of this university is to make the system more learner friendly by the time. Counsellors are appointed to equip the learners with all possible knowledge. Presently this Study Centre has more than 20 regular counsellors.

After successful completion of the program the learner gets the respective degree which is equivalent to any such degree awarded by any recognized university of the country. The degree is recognized by the UGC as also by the Distance Education Council (DEC).
